Full Moon Energy!

Because our bodies are made up of over 70% water we are affected by the gravitational pull of the moon just like the tides. When the moon is full, so are we- full of energy, amour, and life! This Thursday is the Full Moon in Sagitarrius- symbolic of a time for revelation and realization- a time for something... to awaken in your consciousness....

Exercise
How hard do I need to exercise to burn fat?

Did you know that within the same time, you can burn the same amount of, if not more, fat calories during a low intensity cardiovascular workout as you can during a high intensity workout? So basically, during a 30 minute cardio session you can run at 85% of your maximum and burn a higher number of TOTAL calories however a lower number of FAT calories than if you were walking fast for 30 minutes at 65% of your maximum. This is because a higher intensity workout will immediately burn off sugar/carbohydrate calories (not converted into fat calories yet) to give immediate energy. Where as a lower intensity workout will burn fewer calories, but more fat calories will be used up.

This absolutely does NOT mean we should avoid high intensity workouts when we are trying to lose fat/weight. Yes, fat calories are important, however the most important is how many TOTAL calories you burn as you find that balance between nutrition dense foods (calorie-intake) and exercise (calories expended).


Gentle/Beginners Yoga
3 Days with Laura: 6/2, 6/4, 6/6

Every once in a while, it is nice to give your body a much- needed break. Yoga in the west is well known for it's physical benefits of toning, strengthening, and stretching. However, just like 2 sides of the same coin, a well rounded yoga practice will incorporate a more a gentle/restorative side as well. So, maybe you're a beginner wanting to ease into a practice or maybe you're a regular in Kumbi's class ready for a different style. Whatever it is and whoever you are, you will surely benefit from a gentle class with Laura.

Laura Singer teaches Yoga Booty Ballet, Yoga, and 80's dance party in the Los Angeles area. Laura was certified from the well known Yoga Works teacher training program and is excited to be teaching at Heartbeat House.

By popular demand, the Social Ballroom class has extended the Tango to yet another week- so now, you have one more opportunity to dance this amazing dance! All levels and drop in's welcome, no partner required!

Mayberry Fiesta: Saturday 6/2

Mayberry Elementary School in Silver Lake is having a Fiesta/Fundraiser on Sat. June 2nd. The Mariachi Divas will be palying for FREE, there will be games, kids activities, the Conservation Corps will be having a residential tree giveaway, plus a Silent Auction! Heartbeat House will be one of the sponsors at the event- sign up to win a class package!
